Revisiting a post from the past

We teach people how to treat us. I've heard this saying many times and I believe it to be true.

Women have pretty much always been loyal to the Democratic Party and they have until now been the support group for male candidates. We, as women, do the majority of the phone calling and letter mailing and sadly the making of the coffee. We are dependable and by virtue of that very loyalty we have taught the Democratic Party to take us for granted.

Well, for me, no more. I will not be taken for granted and I will not be the support group for the good ole boys club any longer.

The Democratic Party, IMO, sold me out. For the first time in history we had a viable female candidate for president. So what does the leadership of the party do? They run a black male candidate against her. They push forth a 2 year Senator....an unvetted, rookie senator to run against Hillary Clinton. Why they did this is no longer important to me. The fact they did do this is enough to make my blood boil.

So, boys, if you make Obama the nominee, I hope you have a good Starbucks nearby with delivery service because I will not make the coffee or fetch it.

I will not be party to teaching the Democrats that they can continue to take women for granted.

The Whole World is Watching (again)

It was the year 1968, August 26 - 29, and the Democrats were meeting in Chicago for the National Convention. Mayor Daley had denied applications for marches, the police were geared up and ready to go having violently clashed with Black community demonstrators and a peace demonstration in April, and the scene was set for dramatic television. The actual nomination of Hubert Humphrey was anticlimactic compared to the images of demonstrators being beaten by police in the streets of Chicago.

Now, 40 years later, the Democratic National Convention is set to stage another dramatic nomination....not in Chicago, but with a Chicago politician accepting the nomination at Denver’s Mile High Stadium.

According to an email from Donna Brazille:

"In our twenty-four hour news age, lots of big political events come. And then they go.

But this August, when Barack Obama strides on to a stage in Denver to accept the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention, it will be a moment crystallized in American lore. Historians will be talking about it for generations to come."

Yes, Donna, the DNC has made sure that the moment will be crystallized and historic and it is obvious that the whole event has been on the DNC's drawing board for some time. Staging the last day of the convention on the 45th Anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream Speech" the DNC has guaranteed an historical event.

Once again the whole world will be watching. Unfortunately they will be watching an event that was manufactured by the Democratic Party leaders, aided by the media and guaranteed by the Democratic Rules Committee. Be sure that the nomination of Barack Obama is no spontaneous embracing of a Black candidate by an enlightened electorate, it is a carefully manipulated and manufactured event.

As the whole world watches I am sure that the naive and uninformed will be congratulating the United States for putting behind the racism of it's past and having a black man on the ticket for President of the United States...yes, it will be dramatic. But those who are political savvy and informed will be asking themselves how once again the American people can be fooled into voting for a man much like the present president....a man with few accomplishments and a candidate manufactured. A candidate, who, like George Bush, is unqualified to be the leader of the free world. Another man who claims to be a “uniter” but who has instead created as much or more division than George W. Bush.

Yes, once again the whole world will be watching, but it has yet to be seen if we will once again be embarrassed by what they are watching.

Obama Picks Stadium for Acceptance Speech

By Michael Falcone

Updated A sea of 75,000 people swarmed around Senator Barack Obama at a rally in Portland, Ore. in May — the largest crowd of his campaign. And Mr. Obama is planning a repeat performance at the Democratic National Convention in August, when he will open his speech accepting the Democratic nomination to the public, holding it at a football stadium that can accommodate more than three times the number of people as the main convention site.

The Democratic National Convention Committee and the Obama campaign announced on Monday that they would break with tradition and move the final day of convention activities, including the acceptance speech, from the Pepsi Center in Denver to Invesco Field, home of the Denver Broncos, which can hold more than 75,000. The Pepsi Center seats about 20,000.

And just in case you miss the fact that he thinks he's a rock star, here is an email from his campaign. *Cue Music*

Friend --

Join Barack at the Open ConventionI wanted you to be the first to hear the news.

At the Democratic National Convention next month, we're going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we've opened it up throughout this campaign.

Barack has made it clear that this is your convention, not his.

On Thursday, August 28th, he's scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates.

Instead, Barack will leave the convention hall and join more than 75,000 people for a huge, free, open-air event where he will deliver his acceptance speech to the American people.

It's going to be an amazing event, and Barack would like you to join him. Free tickets will become available as the date approaches, but we've reserved a special place for a few of the people who brought us this far and who continue to drive this campaign.

If you make a donation of $5 or more between now and midnight on July 31st, you could be one of 10 supporters chosen to fly to Denver and spend two days and nights at the convention, meet Barack backstage, and watch his acceptance speech in person. Each of the ten supporters who are selected will be able to bring one guest to join them.

Make a donation now and you could have a front row seat to history:

We'll follow up with more details on this and other convention activities as we get closer, but please take a moment and pass this note to someone you know who might like to be there.

It will be an event you'll never forget.

Thank you,

David

Welcome to Reflections from Capital Hill

Welcome to the new authors and readers of Reflections from Capital Hill. This blog is an extension of the political forum Capital Hill. Capital Hill was started as a Hillary Clinton supporters forum but has evolved into an activist forum for women's rights, election reform and holding politicians accountable to we the people.

Because we have so many great writers, activists and artists I wanted them to have a wider presence on the Internet.

Please check back daily for new posts and information.
